OTHER FILMS

Other Films

We don't just make historical drama films.  Our "non-drama" films might be documentaries or films of events such as the visit of the Sealed Knot to Ashby pictured above.  These films are usually made at the request of other organisations and we have worked with museums, heritage sites, churches, schools, heritage groups and local authorities. Not all of these films are available through the internet so where this is the case we have just included some still shots from them below.

Films of events

The 60th anniversary of the Ashby de la Zouch Pithiviers Twinning Association should have taken place in 2020 but was postponed because of the pandemic.  We filmed the Civic Reception put on for the French visitors in 2022.

Anthony Harris, owner of Pat Collins Fairs, talks about the history of the fair and his family.  Pat Collins fairs have been coming to Ashby since the 19th century and Anthony, whose father married into the Collins family, has been coming himself since before the Second World War.

In 2018, Ashby celebrated 800 years of street fairs and markets. One of these fairs, which comes to the town centre every September, is known as The Statutes and the present fair company, Pat Collins Fairs, has been coming since the 19th century.  As part of the 800 years celebrations, Mr and Mrs Harris, owners of Pat Collins Fairs, were given the freedom of the town of Ashby de la Zouch.

In August 2018, the Sealed Knot returned to Ashby for the weekend.  They staged a march of both armies down the main streets and a pitched battle on the Bath Grounds.  There was also a Living History camp at Ashby Castle.  Pudding Bag Productions produced this film of the event at the request of Ashby Town Council.

This film records the National Lottery funded project of the Friends of Ashby Bath Grounds. The project included a successful campaign to save the historic Bath Grounds from development, community events and improvements to the Bath Grounds.

In November 2018, towns and villages all over the country held special events to mark one hundred years since the end of the First World War.  This film records the events in Ashby de la Zouch.

In 2020, the Covid 19 pandemic prevented the normal commemorations on Remembrance Sunday. Instead, St Helen's Church asked us to make this film which was broadcast over the internet on the day.

Films for museums

Primary School Children take you on a madcap tour of the Sir John Moore Foundation Heritage Centre Museum. 2022.

Ashby Theatre Royal is one of 20 short films made for Ashby de la Zouch Museum in 2021 and 2022.  These films are on the digital touchscreen in the museum.

This film uses archive photographs and old video footage from the archives of Hinckley and District Museum to show aspects of the history of the hosiery industry in the district.

Hinckley and District Museum asked us to make this film to explain how the knitting frame worked.

Films made for other organisations

We were commissioned in 2022 to film this collection of poems, read by the poet herself,  Deborah Tyler-Bennett. Inspired by old photographs of Nanpanton Hall, it was screened at 'Labours Lost', an exhibition presented at Nanpantan Hall, Loughborough in May 2022.

One of several films made for St Helen's Church in Ashby.  As well as this tour of the church, we have filmed exhibitions and community archaeological events.

This film about the lime kilns and canal at Moira Furnace was one of ten films made for North West Leicestershire District Council's Hello Heritage Event in 2020.

One of two films, and one animation, made with the pupils of Maplewell Hall School.  Pupils researched the lives of men who had fought in the First World War, survived and went on to greater things.

Between 2019 and 2022 we were the official documentary film-makers for Project Enlightenment at the 1620s House and Garden in Donington le Heath.  This Leicestershire Museums' Project was funded by Arts Council England.

Parallel Lines was a play written for Diseworth Heritage Centre by Chorus Theatre.  We were asked to make a film of the performance.

In 2021, we made this film of the schools' session "Mrs Tiggy Winkle's Washday" for Leicestershire Museums' Creative Learning Resources Centre.

Animations  We don't claim to be specialists in animation, but we like to have a go!

This life-size plaque, picturing Robert Nundi and his two wives, is in St Helen's Church, Ashby.  We used simple animation to bring it to life with a play written by Helen Bralesford.

A fun animation with a serious message, made with the pupils of Maplewell Hall School. The pupils wrote the story, voiced the characters and drew the illustrations.  Part of Leicestershire County Council's Century of Stories Project.

My Palitoy Family was an animation of Palitoy Toys through the ages made for the Many Faces of Palitoy Project.  The characters were voiced by children from Hugglescote Primary School.
